Research and planning - Tobi
We're about to make a news package so during this research and planning period I decided to reflect on my work last year.
During last year I hardly knew how to use any softwares such as adobe premier element, garageband etc, but this shows the progress I made from the beginning of year 12 to the end of year 12.
Last year I was assigned to make titles and I wanted to create a title with a number countdown effect based on a video i saw on youtube. The only problem was I had no clue on how to create this effect so i did some research on youtube and found a tutorial which shows how to create this effect on adobe premier element. Although I didn't use it due to the fact it took very long to make, if I want to use it again in the future I know how to use it.
In our group we were assigned to fo different task and I was assigned to make the background music for the opening sequence. I decided to use garageband however I didn't know how to use it, so I watched tutorial on how to use the basics and I got the hang of it. However I ran into a problem as the music didn't match the clip, it was also very repetitive and my teacher didn't think it sound nice. I decided to add more beat samples and listen to my group members for the type of music they wanted. In the end I composed a musical piece which my group enjoyed and I learnt how to use garageband so if I use it again I know how to make it with ease.
When my group and I were looking at the our first draft of the opening sequence we found that we lacked sound and the only sound we had in the clip was our non - diegetic sound music which i created on garageband. Since I was in charged of music and sound I decided to do research on different sounds I can embed in the video. I found different sounds on youtube which makes the scene such as traffic noise, fan noise, keyboard typing, phone dial and the clock ticking which i downloaded. I embedded these sound clips to the video and it helped the group to get a higher mark.
Before we made our opening sequence we were giving a preliminary task which involved use recording some footage and editing it. The recording was very basic footage, which lacked different shot angles and the footage quality was quite back. So we had this in mind when we were recording our opening sequence and made some adjustment such as the camera; this time we had a professional camera with hd quality, we also did our research on different camera angle we could use on in our shot (such as shot reverse shot, high angle, low angle, mid shot etc.) and tried to use as many as possible in the appropriate place and our editing skills had improved significantly through various task we had before such as a music video and the remake of reservoir dog.
Another task I was assigned with was to make an ident with one of my classmate which involved us making an animations for our logo which was a pulse sign. At the beginning we decided to make our own ident but we found it too difficult to make so we decided to download a clip of a heart rate monitor flatline from youtube using youtube converter then add text to the clip through the use of premier element. I found it easy to make and I could use it again next year if needed.
